Let Us Introduce Ourselves...
We are Andrew & Prue O'Shanesy, and we're the brains and the brawn (not necessarily in that order) behind Wines for Joanie.
We moved to Tasmania from our farm in Queensland in 2012. We had never imagined living anywhere but the cattle and cropping farm we called home. However, things don't always turn out the way you plan.
Tasmania was always in the back of our minds, and then a friend mentioned a little vineyard was for sale in the Tamar Valley. From there things just started falling into place.
We moved into a tiny house in Launceston, worked 9 to 5 jobs and spent our weekends in the vineyard. After 6 months we were climbing the walls, town just wasn't for us. We were looking for the perfect spot, trying to make the budget tell us what we wanted to hear. Eventually we tore up the budget, took the plunge and bought 'Glendale', the little farm we now call home.
I suppose it sounds quite reckless, to leave your home, the people and things that you know and embark on a new, romantic adventure far away. In someways of course it is, but we are both from farming backgrounds. We love growing things, it is who we are and what we, and our families have done for years. Andrew is also a seasoned Viticulturist, who loves the challenges that a cool climate throws his way and Prue is an Accountant. We have a few handy skills between us and we've learnt the rest along the way.
Our farming backgrounds have given us an understanding and appreciation that no two days, weeks, months or years are the same. Instead of pushing against mother nature, we try to work with her to produce the best fruit we can. So we embrace what the season throws at us, let the fruit do the talking and create wines that are unique each year.
We love it here in Tassie, and honestly haven't looked back. We now have 2 dogs, a horse, a prissy cat, a pony, a few chooks & ducks, some sheep, a few cows, and 2 wonderful children, Angus & Isla.
It's taken a while to get here, but here we are in Tasmania making Wines for Joanie. We hope you enjoy drinking them as much as we enjoy growing them.
We look forward to meeting you one day.
